ABOUT SOMATIC YOGA

SOMATIC YOGA - WHAT IS IT?

Somatic Yoga is practiced lying down on a padded, blanketed mat

( don't worry, i will teach you how to get down 😊 & up ⬆️ )

with " soft, slow, small ", guided meditative, mindful movements.

Lying down removes gravity - weight bearing, Re-setting our nervous system, taking us out of " flight or fight " mode and into " rest & digest " mode, signaling safety which is where our inner physician does her good work. This position also un-traps our torso allowing us to breath more deeply, promoting the practice of diaphragmatic breathing as your guide on & off the mat.

The flows or movements are sliding, gliding & stillness or squeezing releasing & pausing (a little like a sponge), rehydrating the fluidity of our fascia.

This Mediative movement allows a deeper connection between the mind & body, allowing us to sense and feel our own unique signature shapes and to come home to ourselves, maybe for the first time since we were born.

Allowing our intuition to " listen"  to & receive the messages our bodies are trying to tell us, so we can heal; instead of pushing the pain down or ignoring it, only to have it manifest somewhere else.

Through these gentle flows , guided by breath and in the stillness our bodies alleviate our nervous system from all the build up, " letting go of the grip " and melting chronic tension, reduce pain, release emotional and physical trauma and re-store fluid movement, so we can move freely and get 'un-stuck' and live the lives we were intended to.

SOMATIC YOGA - Come slide & glide with us, honor your living body for all the work it does for you all day and create a lasting sense of peace and centered wellness.

You have the power within you to live a life of ease.

HISTORY OF SOMATIC YOGA

History of Somatic Yoga

Somatic movement is a response that emerged in the 20th century to honor the need for more holistic, body centered approaches to healing & self-awareness.

Pioneers like Moshe Feldenkrais, Thomas Hanna, and Ida Rolf developed methods that focused on sensing, feeling, and moving with awareness - rather than simply exercising or stretching.

Somatic movement evolved over time to include influences from neuroscience, trauma therapy, dance and yoga, creating a rich field, reconnecting people to their bodies as sources of wisdom, healing and presence.

Today Science confirms what the sages always intuited - our bodies are a continuous living matrix of connective tissue: FASCIA, and our human biology is dynamic, organic and deeply connected to our emotional states. We are not machines or mechanical rubber bands meant to be statically stretched with repetitive, linear movements. The "no pain, no gain" mentality overrides internal biofeedback & strips away the fluid, unpredictable nature of natural human movement.

Through SOMATIC YOGA we have the opportunity to re-discover & honor our living divine temples, re-set our nervous systems, melt chronic pain and rehydrate the fluidity of our own FASCIA .

To learn more about Fascia and how the health of it profoundly affects your body and your life come experience for yourself how tending to it can change how you feel, move, think and live.

Want to know more about FASCIA, read below.

What's juicy : FASCIA

- In the world of anatomy, bodywork and fitness, "juicy fascia" means that your

body's connective tissue is optimally hydrated, supple and gliding smoothly -

Take your skeleton away and your form would still hold! - Fascia is the body's 3 -dimensional structural architecture:  a continuous system-wide network of fibrous connective tissue, that wraps around, supports, interpenetrates and infuses every single muscle, bone, organ, nerve and blood vessel. Fascia is not a passive 'wrapper' or just under your skin as we previously believed. And is in-fact it's own dynamic anatomical system that dictates how we move, how we feel pain and how we perceive our own bodies.

Fascia is primarily composed of collagen (which provides structural strength), elastin (which allows for bounce & elasticity), and a highly fluid matrix. Between the layers of fascia sits a slippery substance called hyaluronan (hyaluronic acid).

When fascia is healthy and well-hydrated, the hyaluronan acts as a lubricant, allowing your muscles and organs to glide smoothly over one another. When we are born we are nice and juicy! As we age and experience life our Fascia dries out - fact! The world in which we live in today and the speed at which we believe we need to adhere to along with experiencing emotional &/or physical trauma, injury, a sedentary or overly physical life, stress.... etc... 'gums up' our Fascia. It can become sticky, dense or 'glue like', binding together and even adhering to itself.

This sticky or stuck feeling is your tissues binding together, restricting your body. Fascia is not numb, it is our largest and richest sensory organ. And it is packed with mechanoreceptors that feed information directly to your nervous system regarding proprioception (your brain's ability to know where your body parts are in space) and interoception (how your body feels from the inside out) - your gut brain or your intuition (the much smarter in-tuned brain).

Fascial disfunction can trigger a wide range of chronic health issues from localized structural pain (that very may well be stemming from somewhere else altogether, pain moves trying to get your attention) systemic neurological problems, immune imbalances, inflammation, bowl, digestive & fertility issues, on & on.... and cause serious injury.

Fascia can be re-hydrated through SOMATIC YOGA with diaphragmatic breath.

nstead of paying for collagen, re-store your own! Let's get juicy, you deserve to be free.
